So I, along with the entire population of the bay area, went to the pier in SF to watch fireworks. I really wan't impressed. I guess up in redneckville, more money is spent on actual fireworks as opposed to public safety. *cough* Boom Boom Productions *cough* Marysville *cough cough*

Still, had a fun enough 4th. Went to "Voted best tea room in town by SF Weekly!"[1] with some friends, then rode the tourist trap roller coaster to the pier. Ate at Hard Rock, got the best table ever. Very woot. Managed to be between "buzzed" and "completely shitfaced" the evening hours of the entire weekend. Memorable. At some point during the weekend I also ended up at the beach, old navy, and express men. I spent too much money.

I got my leash at work today. It beeps occasionally, and uses the iDen transmission protocol. It makes my headphones click. Oh CDMA, how I miss thee.

And my final random thought: Does anybody remember life before doskey? Back when commands entered on the command line had to be perfect every time, or you had to retype the whole bloody thing? Back when ^H was your only option? I've been reintroduced to those times recently, working on an AT&T UNIX install. Holy fucking shit, we've come a long way in 15 years. The next person I find who thinks that doing berkleyDB is a great idea for systems which will be around awhile and amass a lot of data, I will personally shoot right in the head. Twice. *grumbles*

[1] By "tea room" I mean a coffeehouse-like shop which deals chiefly in dried leaves thoroughly coated by recently boiled water, as opposed to a bathroom in Delores Park. Just for clarification there.

You know, I had the same thoughts about what Saint Paul had to offer. For some reason, that stupid little area always had a good show on.

Oh, and by the way, thanks for clarifying what you meant by "tea room!" Someone almost had the wrong impression!

I remember running a linux distro that allowed you to hit tab on the command line to guess what path you were typing. When they got it in XP, I was overjoyed.
